Dear Reader
Will the Winter Games help or hinder the metropolitan Vancouver
real estate market. How will the real estate market be affected?
Winter Games' influence on real estate
In South Africa we should be ask the question "Will
the Soccer World Cup 2010 help or hinder the South African
property market." Opinion is, as always, divided.
I suppose in the end only time will tell.
Headlines: Currently the biggest concern around the
World Cup and the property industry is the renting out
of property. The message is clear Property owners
thinking of letting out their homes over the World Cup period
should be sceptical about the rents that some agents are claiming
they will be able to achieve especially if, tempted
by the these huge gains, they are holding back on signing
satisfactory long term leases right now. Will
astronomical world cup rentals be achieved?
Market news: Home-owners can expect their property
values to go up, on average, by about 6% in 2010. That's the
expectation from Absa, which has been tracking South Africa's
residential house prices since the 1960s. Absa Home Loans
senior property analyst Jacques du Toit said on Monday
that the upward trend in nominal house prices has been
evident since the middle of 2009 and is "expected to
gather further momentum" as a result of better economic
conditions, the lagged effect of lower interest rates and
improving credit conditions for buyers. "Keeping in mind
that the positive effect of lower interest rates will gradually
wear off towards the end of the year, nominal house price
growth of around 6% is currently projected," said Du
Toit. Expect to feel 6% richer this year
Enjoy!
